A successful meeting of music and poetry!

A successful meeting of music and poetry!

Yesterday evening saw a gathering of about 150 musiclovers at the Nobel Museum. They where there to take part of a concert called Music between walls and vaults. The meeting of Tomas Tranströmers poetry and Georg Riedels music sounded very promising indeed and there was certainly excitement in the air!

The concert, which was a co-operation with Storkyrkan, started off with an introduction by the Museum Director, Ph. D. Olov Amelin, followed by the swedish actor Jonas Bergströms recitating Tomas Tranströmers poem Schubertiana and organist Mattias Wager playing Schubert.

Next part of the concert took place under the beautiful vaults of Storkyrkan. This then was the time and place for the first performance of Georg Riedels song versions of some of Tranströmers lyrics. Singer Sarah Riedel was accompanied by Emil Strandberg on trumpet, Thomas Backman on saxophone, Jonas Östholm on piano and Georg Riedel himself on contrabass.

The evening ended with pieces of classical music that Tomas Tranströmer himself had requested – brilliantly performed by Mattias Wager on organ. All music in Storkyrkan was recorded and sent to Tomas Tranströmer who unfortunately was not able to attend.

It was without a question a night to remember!
